Guinea Pigs and a Bear
The Roosevelt guinea pigs were named after Bishop Doane who was the first Episcopalian Bishop of Albany. Father O'Grady a local priest in Oyster Bay, Admiral Dewey of Spanish American War Fame and Fighting Bob Evans who attacked Fort Fisher in 1865 and commanded the USS Iowa in the Battle of Santiago de Cuba during the Spanish American War.
One day Archie burst in on his parents who were with guests and shouled "Father…Father, Bishop Doane has had twins..!
The bear Jonathan Edwards was a gift from West Virginia supporters who thought TR should have a small bear. It was name Jonathan Edwards after Edth's ancestor. TR thought the bear showed distinct Calvanistic tendencies.
