Ink Wells

These are two inkwells made from the foot of a hippopotamus on the left and a foot of a rhinoceros on the right.  Back then taxidermists were making personal and household items from animal parts.  Ivory combs and bookmarks and ink wells.  The Rhino paw is on the desk in the North Room and the Hippopotamus foot is on the desk in the Gunroom.

It’s likely these inkwells came from TR’s African safari in 1909–1910.
