Library of Congress Photographs

In this first of three photos you see the back of the Roosevelt mansion.  TR's grandfather built the residence facing Broadway.  The address was 849 Broadway.  These pictures show the back of the house.

In this image you can see the rear 3rd floor rear window  open with an indistinguishable image visible.  The shudders on the 2nd floor rear window are fully closed.

You can see the six military columns in full swing as they make their way toward the left turn onto Broadway.

In this second photograph you can see six military columns making their way to Broadway at the end of the block.

At this stage of t he procession the 3rd floor rear window is now open and it appears there are one or two images looking down on the procession..  The shudders on the 2nd floor rear window are now fully closed.

It’s in this third picture where, for the first time, you see the two images looking out of the second floor window in the back of the house.

At the end of the block you can see a huge crowd gathered to watch the procession make the left turn onto Broadway passing in front of TR's grandparent's on its way to the Hudson River Railroad Depot at 30th Street.  From there the casket will travel to Rensselaer and Albany by rail.

There is an erroneous report TR's father marched in the procession as a member of the Union League.   However, the historic record shows New York City denied organizations like the Union League from participating in the procession because their organization included black membership.

While there’s written record TR's father was in New York City during the time of the funeral procession there's no record to show he was at his father's house with his son.
